This Privacy Policy describes how Backed Limited ("Backed", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares personal information when you interact with our website, our platform, or our applications (collectively, the "Services").

We are committed to processing personal data lawfully, fairly, and transparently in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

1. Information we collect

We collect personal data that you provide directly, that we receive from third parties (e.g. e-commerce platforms), and that we generate as you use the Services.

Information you provide

  • Account & application details: name, email, brand name, social handle, niche, follower count, and the information submitted via our brand or creator application forms.
  • Campaign details: budget, target ROAS, deliverables, and any communications related to a campaign.
  • Payment information: bank account or payment-method details required to fund a campaign or receive payouts. Card and bank details are processed by our payment partners; we do not store full payment numbers on our systems.

Information we collect automatically

  • Usage data: pages viewed, features used, referring URLs, device type, browser type, and approximate location (derived from IP).
  • Cookies and similar technologies: we use a small number of strictly necessary and analytics cookies. See our Cookies section below.

Information from third parties

  • Commerce providers: when a brand or creator connects a Shopify, Amazon, Stripe, or other commerce account, we receive sale events necessary to verify commission.
  • Identity and KYC providers: for compliance, we may receive verification results from regulated identity providers.

2. How we use your information

  • To operate, maintain, and improve the Services.
  • To assess applications from brands and creators and route them to the right team.
  • To process payments, calculate retainers and commission, and reconcile verified sales.
  • To communicate with you about your account, campaigns, and customer support.
  • To comply with legal, regulatory, and audit obligations.
  • To detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, security incidents, or violations of our Terms.

3. Legal bases for processing

We process personal data under one or more of the following legal bases: performance of a contract, compliance with a legal obligation, our legitimate interests (such as running and improving the Services), or your consent.

4. Sharing of information

We share personal data only where necessary, including with:

  • Service providers who help us run the Services (hosting, analytics, customer support, payment processing).
  • Brand or creator counterparties when a deal is agreed, limited to information needed to operate the campaign.
  • Regulators, courts, or law enforcement when required by law.
  • Successor entities in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

We do not sell personal data.

5. International transfers

Where personal data is transferred outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area, we put in place appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

6. Data retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, including legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. Application data for unsuccessful applicants is typically deleted within 12 months.

7. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and to data portability. You may also withdraw consent at any time and lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

9. Security

We maintain appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and regular security reviews. No system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

10. Children

The Services are not directed to anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from minors.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will notify you by email or by posting a prominent notice on the Services.
